Qualifying for a major Games is a challenge at the best of times. To do so in the middle of Ramadan is even more challenging.

Still, that’s what Coached athlete, Ahmad Arif Ibrahim, had to do if he wanted to represent Singapore in the upcoming SEA Games in Vietnam.

Arif joined us on our weekly team call on Saturday. Our team call is where we share updates, celebrate results, and answer athlete questions. Now and then, we invite a guest, like Arif,  with expertise in a specific area to join our call and educate our team.

The early part of our conversation focused on Ramadan and how he manages his training during this period.

Since Ramadan is still in progress, I thought it was worth sharing this part of the conversation. Here it is.

In this video, Arif shares…

  • His background and how he got into triathlon.
  • How religion helps you in sport.
  • What his daily schedule looks like during Ramadan.
  • What morning and evening meals look like during Ramadan.
  • What it feels like to train when you’re fasting.
  • How he managed to win the SEA Games trial during Ramadan.
  • How being a triathlete changed Arif’s experience of Ramadan.

I hope you enjoy the video.
